Worship at St. Paul's UMC follows the liturgical calendar which is centered on the festive days of Christmas and Easter. For each of these festivals, there is a season of preparation, a season of celebration, and a season of growth. Over the course of the year, the colors in our sanctuary will change to mark the changing liturgical seasons. These colors indicate the tone or emphasis of worship on the particular day or season.

ADVENT (the four Sundays before Christmas)
Color: Blue or purple
The Sundays of Advent are sometimes given names such as peace, love, joy, and hope.
CHRISTMAS (December 25 through January 5)
Color: White
Special days include Christmas Day and the Baptism of the Lord Sunday.
SEASON AFTER EPIPHANY (January 6th through the day before Ash Wednesday)
Color: Green
Special days include Epiphany Sunday (Sunday closest to January 6) and Transfiguration Sunday (the Sunday before Ash Wednesday).
LENT (Ash Wednesday through the Saturday before Easter Sunday)
Color: Purple
Special days include Ash Wednesday, Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Holy/Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.
EASTER (Easter Sunday until Pentecost)
Color: White
Special days include Easter, Ascension (forty days after Easter), and The Day of Pentecost (fifty days after Easter).
SEASON AFTER PENTECOST (The Sundays after Pentecost through Christ the King Sunday)
Color: Green
Special days include Trinity Sunday, Reformation Day (Oct. 31), All Saints Day (Nov. 1), and Christ the King (the Sunday before Advent)
